Italy: First E-Vespa in the South Tyrolean wine region

When a Vespa The V50 from the 1970s is being electrified and conquering South Tyrol – with love of homeland, craftsmanship and dedication.

Devid Mayer from Tramin in South Tyrol loves his Vespa V50. Built in 1974, classic design, genuine Italian craftsmanship. But Devid isn't just an enthusiast – he's also a doer. In his workshop, DM Corse Officina, a vision emerged: His Vespa should drive electrically, and at the same time show the way for further e-conversions in South Tyrol.

Devid realized his project using the prosimo Smallframe Kit SF 50. And the result? The first officially approved e-Vespa throughout Italy – with TÜV certification from TÜV SÜD and official registration by Agenzia Dolomit in Bolzano.

Why this Vespa, why now?

Devid didn't just want to electrify a scooter – he wanted to show that it was possible. A classic from 1974, full of charm and history, shouldn't be left to rot in a garage. With a modern electric drive, such scooters can be revitalized. VespaIt's a new life – reliable, low-maintenance, environmentally friendly.

"The Vespa "It should do what it has always done: move people, connect places. Only now quietly and cleanly," was Devid's thought.

The Kit: SF 50 – Small power, big character

David chose the prosimo Kit SF 50:

  • Direct drive – no shifting, no oil, no gearbox
  • 50 km/h top speed (legally clear)
  • 45 km range (perfect for day trips through South Tyrol)
  • Charging at a household electrical outlet
  • The classic look and feel is retained.

The Vespa It looks like it used to – only under the hood is the future at work.

The conversion: Craftsmanship meets electrical engineering

David built the Vespa I was able to do it myself – supported by the comprehensive prosimo documentation with videos and written instructions. Prosimo was regularly available to answer any technical questions.

The work steps:

  • Removal of the internal combustion engine
  • Installation of the new swingarm with wheel hub motor
  • Install cabling and controls
  • Mount the battery under the seat
  • Adjust speedometer and displays

Devid is skilled in his craft, and the prosimo documentation gave him all the information he needed.

The approval: Courage pays off

The approval process in Italy was uncharted territory. RDW and German authorities are familiar with electric vehicle conversions, but Italy? Devid needed:

  • The TÜV SÜD report (prosimo had it)
  • The Agenzia Dolomit in Bolzano (specializing in vehicle registrations)
  • Patience and perseverance

The result in March 2026: Registration certificate issued, license plates assigned, insurance in place.

David's Vespa is the first E-Vespa in Italy – not because the technology is new, but because Devid had the courage to try it.
